This party is for people to dance, perspire and lose their shit. The music switching between the raw/weirder side of house, the stranger side of disco and the odd live set.

Up and coming sheffield support somes from these guys. Great Deeds are a thrashy, mathy, punky trio. Talent, pain and talent. ot a bad mix. Hectic riffs, swooning bass lines and galloping drums.

Be sure to make it down for these guys.

As always Matt Von Bad and the Xray Residents will be spinning the wheels of steel well in to the early morn, joining the dots between upfront glam, classic tight indie and heavy synth techno.

See you on the floor.

Right then,
Xrayhorse Music is ridiculously proud once again to be hosting Ghostpoet’s Sheffield tour show. The one man machine is embarking on a musical crusade to slay all before him on full UK tour in 2012. The mercury music prize nominee and Jools Holland show stealer will bring his full live show to Sheffield once again, and will no doubt destroy DQ’s Funktion One sound system, just like he did at the Harley back in October. See the great Now Then mag review of that night here.

We have more space to stretch out this time , and we have an extremely varied and brilliant full lineup, feat leeds indie-alt rising stars Alt J, homegrow band to watch out for Wooderson and a stella house/bass music linuep for the clubnight, Squarehead + Hem:per Djs + Xray residents

Ghostpoet aka Obaro Ejimiwe has quickly cemented his stature as one of the UK’s most exciting and original artists. Heralded a mighty force to be reckoned with by inspirational figures such as Roots Manuva and Mike Skinner of The Streets, Ghostpoet is no flash in the pan and is set to make more headway into the minds of the nation in 2012.

Obaro’s debut album ‘Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam’ is crammed with his loveable ramshackle, homemade productions and instantly recognisable vocal slices, ‘Peanut Butter Blues…’ is a neat summation of the MC’s musical journey to date, but also an impressive statement of intent. His live show however is a punk onslaught of lazy synths and snares, high NRG grooves that slap and tickle and lyrical firepower that leaves the crowd straddling dumbfoundness and moshing.

Check the technique.

Alt-J or (delta sign created with the key combination of alt+j on an Apple ) is the name of the band creating seemingly minimalistic tracks which you simply cannot listen to just once. they are on a national our and have huge play from radio 1 / xfm / and multiple online stations.

Alt-J create vocally experimental guitar based music. Lyrics are often strange, lyrics are often relatable, lyrics are often touching, lyrics are performed in an interesting / slightly odd manner which sets them apart from their indie counterparts. There are rounds and harmonies which provoke a return of memories of child hood music lessons and choir practises. There will be no-one like Alt-J in the music industry in 2012, we are very happy to get to Sheffield, so make sure you lap them up in all of their charming obscurity.

Likes Lions

Likes Lions, a five piece from Sheffield , who produce complicated, strange and high energy post-indie music. Rich Bristow (Vocals / Synth), Martin Ruffell (Drums), Will Page (Guitar / Synth / Vocals), Greg Pritchard (Guitar / Vocals) and Kyle Rice (Bass / Vocals) have been together since 2009, and have a great new EP Future Colour , out now.

A briliant post-punk Sheffield band that play J division esque guitar drone madness, all built upon key changes and emotional sensibilites. “Sometimes it’s loud, sometimes it’s quiet, sometimes its tight, sometimes its loose, sometimes its controlled, sometimes its chaotic. It’s always played with passion”

They had a great year in 2011 and are really ones to watch in 2012.

Hem:per DJ collective are made up of 4 like minded house/bass seletors from Sheffield, previously known at Standard Procedure Collective, they have built a tight following through their hot as shit live mix streaming sessions and various sweaty underground house shows. A multitude of talent and a multitude of forward thinking have meant they sound like nothing else.

Uneven Blonde DJs

UB is a hugely influencial Sheffield/Brighton independant promoter and DJ team, that have consisitently put together great shows for over 3 years. The boys also run a must-go-to weekly club night at the Gatsby in Sheffield on Wednesday nights. Expect obscure and brilliant electronica / post-everything guitar music / avant garde pop and straight up rock and roll.

As the last show did, this one will sell out fast.
Early bird tickets will go on sale this week .£9.50. We strongly recommend you do not delay.

Xrayhorse Music – 11th February

We take our residency night at harley very seriously indeed, well very seriously in the sense we try to consistently book bands and artists we think are producing forward thinking and passionate music (local and national), not seriously as in we cant laugh at our frequently dubious disc jockey skills and  and second rate stage mgmt. Anyway this isnt an AA meeting,… the Harley has a been a shining light in the Sheffield independent DIY music scene for many years and we are very proud to be continually invovled.

Our residencey show in February is no different and we have a great lineup of talented, boundry pushing bands for your enjoyment.

11th Feb @ Harley | £4 | 8-4am.

We love this band. Sheffield based Fallen Trees, featuring Paul Littlewood (vocals and guitar); Glenn Moss (analogue synthesiser) , Dave Timmons (drums) and a mystical fourth member , are an unorthodox live set up, but they produce gut wrentching, beautiful and strange hard-blues music.  Self titled album  tracks ‘Numbers’ and ‘Too Young’ have received airplay on a number of radio stations and we’ve been eagerly trying to get them back on our stage since they co-headlined our Tramlines Stage at the Forum at detroyed the place. Fallen Trees are set for another leap forward in 2012, and we cannot wait to follow.

The Neat  are on many peoples “Ones To Watch Lists” for 2012. Their talented mix of post-punk and rock influences has caught the attention of the mainstream audience and press in a way that no band to come out of Hull has done in AAAAGES. The band also recently won a download poll and claimed a spot at the coveted Artrocker New blood Festival, and will now take the stage at the at The Hoxton Square Bar & Grill  playing alongside Artery and Cold In Berlin.

The sound of The Neat is punk evolved. As country divides into throbbing zeitgeist and postpunk reactionaries, their sounds blows directly and refreshling straight down the throats of us all. They are unafraid of crediting the obvious Fall,  Clash, and Fire Engines influences as they spit Mark E.sque venom onto screeching guitars and thrust themselves forward,  face first and snarling: utterly compelling. Witness live for maximum effect.

A local (and legendary, I might add) band from Sheffield, The Hope Explosion mix a mean cocktail of prog (but never too meandering), some blues and a true, honest passion for 90s alternative rock (back when a distortion was a pedal, not a plug in).

Counting influences a varied as Led Zeppelin, Smashing Pumpkins, Elliott Smith and Mad Season, these trio give it all onstage and hopefully will let their optimistic rock go full tilt boogie this year out.

Here’s a massive track, enjoy.

Proper Dogs are a very exciing new(ish) rock ‘n’ roll outfit from the Wakefield area with strong leanings towards blues, psychedelia, punk, and 60s sounds.

First on are The Superlatives providing that sheffield punk-indie sound, but its not like all the others its got an edge, dirty and rocky.

As Xrayhorse sweeps up the crumbs of mince pies and fumigates the stench of grandad’s rank xmas ass – we also usher in a suberb lineup of music to begin a stupendous run of shows for 2012.

Special Guest DJ – CHECAN

Xrayhorse Djs
Drowned in Sound Djs

Ghostpoet aka Obaro Ejimiwe has quickly and quietly cemented his stature as one of the UK’s most exciting and original artists. Heralded a mighty force to be reckoned with by inspirational figures such as Roots Manuva and Mike Skinner of The Streets, Ghostpoet is no flash in the pan.

Obaro’s debut album ‘Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam’ is crammed with his loveable ramshackle, homemade productions and instantly recognisable vocal ditties, ‘Peanut Butter Blues…’ is a neat summation of the MC’s musical journey to date, but also an impressive statement of intent.

This night however is definitely not just about the headline act. A massive lineup of local and national talent will be gracing the stage and providing us a night of amazing future sounds.

Checan is a rising 19 year old producer/ DJ from Sheffield who’s fresh brand of productions and DJ’ing have seen him make massive strides in recent months.

2010 saw the release of his first E.P ”New Breed” featuring
Manchester’s MC DRS; ‘an ecelctic mix of garage, emceeing and a whole bunch of other stuff’ on the Sheffield based Tipping Point Label and in 2011 Checan is making waves in the UK music scene with radio support from the likes of Toddla T,Seiji, Monki and Whistla.

Now regularly found smashing up dancefloors across the Steel City and beyond his live sets are always heavy, exciting and soulful.

‘If Hourglass Sea is anything to go by, at least we can be assured that chillwave has dripped through to the city, and long enough for the city to be getting bored of it.  In the space of two songs, Bentley may have moved into being West Yorkshire’s most promising musical talent. The work of Dean Bentley, this project sounds like Solar Bears being played on a better speed setting’ (thanks to The pigeon post for words).

HGS will be bringing his hi-tech reverb drench trip hop to the party – and in the process you will see the meannig of life. Very excited.

Breton began life in a warehouse somewhere in South East London.

Born from the creative force of musicians and filmmakers – Roman Rappak and Adam Ainger – and expanded recently into a multi-instrumental and visual collective with the inclusion of Ian Patterson, Daniel McIlvenny and Alex Wadey.

Brand new afrobeat noise jazz band that are killing their first forays into stage occupation. On stage they ‘use a fuck load of pedals’ and ‘don’t wear any shoes’. Fucking agree, who needs vans anyway.
Xray is happy we get to hear their music , up close like.

KEEP THE FAITH – tickets:

After a mini break in Feb, we are back in the game.

Xrayhorse nights have been running for nearly 24 months now, and we have collaborated with over 50 bands from all over the UK. From initial beginnings in the tiny, sweaty and awesome Stock Room (RIP) to the (majestic) Harley via West end stages at Tramlines we have been very lucky to host some great bands, CIVIL CIVIC / Deadsons / Bromheads / LO7BT / We/are/animal / Riding Giants / Seize the Chair / Wot Gorrilla / Buffalo Bones / Paper Tiger / Silent Film Project / Heebie Jeebies and Roman Android, to name but a few . There has also been some great after show parties and late night dance floor marathons.

To celebrate this entry into the terrible two’s, we have enlisted a truly brilliant band from around the way. THE BRUTE CHORUS are on a UK tour and will be stopping off in Sheff to perform songs from their new album. In support we have the excellent Skeletons, the savage Pirouettes and awesome Risky Heroes.

The lovely HARLEY BAR in Sheff will host the night. And as always Matt Von Bad and the Xray Residents will be spinning the wheels of steel well in to the early morn, joining the dots between upfront glam, classic tight indie and heavy synth techno.

Tickets are available here:

Remember to join the xrayhorse group, so as to keep up-to-date and sh7t.

See you on the floor.

Happy birthday to us goddamn it.
